So I just watched "Angel" (check out our eponymous hero with the humanity points loss) and ate a dinner that included so-called "California Rice Trilogy," which sounds like it should be an award-winning motion picture about three generations of Japanese-American women or something, but is, in fact, rice.

I have done important work today, like making sure I have properly spooky icons on my OS X desktop and reading through old e-mail. As a result of the latter, [livejournal.com profile] amberspyglass-like, I will share with you some lines, some up to a decade old.

------
"This much is true--I have neither met nor heard of a single lesbian feminist who was not a woman."

The following was the entire text of the message:
"'delphako-omai' - to grow up to pighood --- daphne"

"She could feel THEM coming, the sensation of cold linguini being rubbed in her armpits."

"The first penguin says, 'You know, it looks like you're wearing a tuxedo.' And the second penguin smiles and says, 'Maybe I am.'"

"...you, Dave, may be a perfect blend of good and evil, but it doesn't do you any good when you are a powerless nothing."

"Of course you all know that I meant PLATE tectonics."

"Drop that obsidian, punk!"

"Have fun in Greek composition. I never realized that that was taught anymore."

Reporting a student essay:
I have just learned that "Rome was a fun place, that's why it lasted so long."

Likewise:
"Euripides showed that men can be reasonable and women are going to get you
if you hurt them first."

"Labor omnia vincit, etiam me."

"I have not yet all gegrokked."

"Thus, taking one element from each list, you could write about, 'Phallocentric Hermeneutics in the wives of Pliny.' Or even 'The Marxist Pastiche in the poetry of the Elgin Marbles.' I believe all of this is suitable material."

"Tang is King--or at least orange and fruity."

i was v ery disappointed with the angel episode. i've a feeling this entire season will be little teases on how spike almost becomes human. ending with a big finale episode where he finally does become human or something.

Oh. So it's kinda like Pinocchio... except with well-dressed undead and Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Angel, No loss in humanity...

(The more I read of you, the more I think we have bumped into each other...)

Ok...as a gamer/game designer/geeky fan, I take this argument of Angel, formed since the BtVS days, using WoD as the backdrop.

Angel does NOT have a Humanity rating.

Remember...UNLIKE Spike, who went out to -recapture- his soul, Angel is *CURSED* with a soul. At best, I would say the whole line of vamps starting with the way-too-obvious Tzim "The Master", are truly the baddest of the bad, Angellus (whom I keep thinking is a 6th or 7th gen) being rather much a bad boy in his pre-exsanguinist days. Right now, having to -deal- with the guilt the curse brings, he has taken up a PATH. I would say "Honorable Accord" or "Heaven"...while Spike is clearly taken up the Road of Humanity. NETHER still has a true Humanity score, even possessing a soul.

The devil's gift of Wolfram & Hart, LA was definitely the way to get to Angel...as the saying goes, the devil is in the details, and with "Angel now looking at the big picture", he's going to miss ALOT of those little details. Budgets over innocents, cutting corners to 'serve the greater good', the gang would have been better served by LIQUIDATING the holdings, and burning the entire place to the ground. I do love how each was given the EXACT role they played in the smaller game...Angel now COO, Wesley as Head of Research and Intel, Lorne as Director of Media Acquisitions, Fred as Head of Practical Sciences research...and lets not forget the person who was always battlefield commando, Gunn, now as head of Internal Security...but the cornerstone of what W&H actually do. Head of Legal Affairs. Same game, different weapon...and yes. First to be -touched- by the Powers that Be. Gunn already made a devil's deal before...lets see what happens now that he owes the conduit AND the PTB.

As for Angel...well...without true love and happiness...and with all that power...Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The first thing I thought when reading your post, because I'm a narcissist, is "hey, these quotes are worthy of my journal!"

Then I got to wondering whether I was actually the mysterious absence before the hyphen in that introductory paragraph. Peeking at the source for this page (as I said, I'm a narcissist), I saw that -- hooray! I am associated so strongly with lines-out-of-context that even people who have never met me say so!

JFTR, "lj user" but "lj-cut". I've always found the inconsistency stupid too.

I thought it was a bit overwrought and slow-moving. But at least from the previews they seem to have a zany episode for balance next week.

Well, no Gellar in this series. But there was a line about becoming a "real boy."

You were indeed the mysterious absence. I shall restore you to the text by the targeted application of a delete key and a spacebar.

And here I thought you were bragging.

The lines you have singled out are all from my pal Ben, with whom I have, I am ashamed to say, largely lost contact. I am inspired to attempt to renew it.

And yet those words were uttered by someone who does not know the fiendish Tang, and in a time when I didn't, either!
