I have a CD ("The York Waits, Renaissance Town Band, Perform Music from the Time of Richard III") in a drawer here at work that I checked out from the Cambridge, MA, Public Library when I was living roughly across the street (1993-1995) (*). It has been in my office, as a convenient location from which to return it, ever since I came upon it (to my surprise) while packing to move from Brighton to Providence.

("But Quislibet, don't you live in Salem?"

Why, yes: I moved to Salem from Providence three years ago. Why do you ask?)

When I think of it, I feel bad, because a librarian there, in Cambridge, I mean, some time in 1994 or so, once accused me of not having returned it, if you can imagine the sheer cheek. "I'm pretty sure I returned it along with other stuff last month," I said, and meant it. "Oh, well, if you returned it," he said, "then we'll delete it from your record."

And he did.

I think I may well repatriate it tonight, and check out a craft show nearby. But first, I'll rip it with iTunes, because I am an evil man.

(*) Those were exciting times to live in that neighborhood. I remember one of my roommates was excited because a west-coast coffee chain called Starbucks was opening one of their first Boston-area locations just down the street. I wonder if they've managed to do well.
