Painted statues
Mar. 26th, 2004 11:37 amFor those of you near Copenhagen, which does not include me even a little, there's an exhibit attempting to show how all of those white marble statues would have looked in antiquity before the paint faded with the centuries. See, e.g., here:

There's another website with some examples. The Prima Porta Augustus looks like he's getting all tarted up for a night out with Maecenas (scroll to end):

But I do like the cartoonishness of the Caligula head just above it, and the Aeginetan high elf commander in the middle of the page is pretty cool.
Some of them statues is nekkid.
