That Jack Russell is some kind of cold-hearted bastard. And I don't mean the terrier, or the chorus director at the College of Wooster.

J. says my mom called yesterday morning in a panic, lest we had gone to Rhode Island for a rock show. It was the first J. had heard of the terrible fire (more terrible now; at that time the death toll was "only" about 35). She successfully stopped herself from tactlessly employing any of the usual, almost automatic expressions to indicate the unlikelihood of our having wanted to attend.

How weird that it came less than a week after the Chicago trampling thing.

So this is my first post in a few days, for obvious reasons. Stupid DDOS.

And I find I have little to say. Yesterday was an annoying day at work that began with two ominous signs: (1) my commuter train broke down en route and (2) I had to restart my work computer before I even sat down at my desk. It was all downhill from there, at least in the sense of "descending to a lower state of misery," so perhaps I mean it was all uphill from there, in that it was tough going. I dunno.

It didn't help that as I wrestled (metaphorically, but only from self-restraint) with a new and different kind of printer problem my boss stood by asking whether one might have foreseen all of these problems before buying a new printer.

Hmm. My recurring daily annoyances seem to involve being a commuter and operating a computer. Coincidence?

I haven't read all of your journal entries from the past few days yet. I would read more now and post witty or sympathetic replies, but I'm already blowing off two different social opportunities today in order to get some serious study done, which means I should do some serious study.
