In a hotly contested race to become the new euphemism for Quislibet's dissertation, Consuela has proved victorious over her opponent, Fat Eddie, despite Fat Eddie's apparent victory in the popular vote, 36 to 35, according to the final count today around lunchtime. "Eddie seems to have won by a single vote, but we know of at least one case of double-voting," says a Livejournal election official who did not reveal his name. "That means we have, at best, a tie."

In the event of a tie, election rules call for a tie-breaking vote to be cast by J., whose support for Consuela has been no secret among those who care about such things. Fat Eddie initially demanded a recount, but has apparently backed away from this position since reports have appeared that his campaign manager, Reginald "Rocky" Quinn, may be under investigation for election fraud.

"We don't need to look at the votes again," Fat Eddie was quoted as saying earlier today. "I'm sure that Puerto Rican broad won fair and square. Spanish. Whatever."

Meanwhile, Consuela's reaction has been upbeat. Asked if she felt that the election results were at all "tainted" by controversy, she replied, "Not on your life. This is an American dream come true. Today I have been given a decisive mandate from the people, and you can expect great things to come."
