20 Years Ago (Age 11)
1. I was an obnoxious SCAdian child and obsessed with D&D
2. I wore sweater vests and was androgynous in a bad way
3. I was a good student, if a little hyperactive
4. I was a mighty sixth-grader, lord of all I surveyed (except for the parts that other 6th-graders claimed)
5. My friend Mike and I annoyed the hell out of a girl named Charity because we thought she was cute

10 Years Ago (Age 21)
1. I spent my Friday nights doing radio comedy, and had a resurgence of the SCA thing
2. I wore tourist t-shirts from Greece and first began actually trimming my beard rather than go for the "mountain man" look
3. I found creative ways to procrastinate writing my senior thesis
4. I was a mighty college senior applying to grad schools
5. I was dating a nurse

5 Years Ago (Age 26)
1. I got involved in vampire LARPs, and spent the rest of my time at night clubs and parties
2. I wore black puffy shirts and eyeliner but could not be androgynous because of my beard
3. I was finding clever ways to procrastinate studying for qualifying exams
4. I was a grad student, but you wouldn't necessarily have known that to judge from my behavior
5. I was miserably rebounding

1 Year Ago (Age 30)
1. I still spent too much time gaming, but had embarked on what turned out to be a full year of little or no clubbing or partying
2. I wore black but no longer felt so "uncool" in study clothes
3. I was getting slightly more serious about my dissertation prospectus
4. I was facing having to defend my graduate student status on a yearly basis
5. I had just moved to Salem with J.
