How did it get to be so late?
Jul. 28th, 2004 02:00 amI was going to watch a video and work on terribly important game prep. Instead I've been online and should really get to bed.
Bother.
I didn't even stir to eat the ice cream I meant to eat. How sad is that?
I took a North Shore bus today in order to come home and feet cats and water the garden and it wasn't all that bad. (Of course, now it's raining, so maybe I could have held off on the garden thing...) And I got to commute through South Station, which is really a much better place than North Station (aka the Fleet Center, off limits this week to mere commuters). For one thing, there's a Rosie's Bakery counter.
Thanks to everyone who filled out the poll yesterday; I found it usefully interesting, or interestingly useful, or at any rate it gave me something to do other than what I was meant to be doing. You are all enablers.
Despite having learned that almost no one reads my journal on the page itself, I nevertheless spent too much time tonight changing its layout. Go figure. (Edit: This is not a call for you to make an extra effort to go look at it; it's not terribly exciting and you'll see it anyway if you ever read or leave comments to my posts.)
It is also important that I wrote all of this down for you to read.

Date: 2004-07-28 05:17 am (UTC)You're yet another person I have met online that I regret not meeting IRL here in MA. Shame that most of the people I think are cool up here are online and not real life acquaintances.
A pal of Mani's works in the city and emailed about what a mess it is with the DNC going on; he said it's like the dark side of the moon, all barriers and people with badges around their necks, no regular traffic. Even the protest cages are empty.

Date: 2004-07-28 07:18 am (UTC)Good of you -- although people who leave comments to my posts will see the layout anyway.
(Hmm. This layout looks terrible in iCab (http://www.icab.de).)
I haven't been any closer to the DNC than South Station, where there's more of a pronounced police presence -- and lots of helpful signs to find misplaced buses and so forth. Go MBTA! (That's not something I'll say often.) I'm thinking I might trudge around closer this afternoon and take pictures or something. Seems like I should.

I feel that way about my actual real-life local friends, whom I generally only "see" online! Living in the suburbs is something of a good training for my coming year as an expat, I guess.

Date: 2004-07-28 08:08 am (UTC)I have to say the seven years I've been up here, except for immediate family and a few exceptions, have been socially lonely for me. People don't just drop in for coffee here, or maybe I'm hanging with the wrong people.
Sorry
