Hmmm. It seems my post from yesterday afternoon did not, in fact, post itself after all.

Alas.

Having decided from the other day that I could in fact after 10 or more years still ride bicycles without smashing into things or being smashed into, I rode to Marblehead yesterday afternoon and rediscovered my ancient hatred for hilly roads. And 114 from Salem to Marblehead is hillier than one realizes from travel by car. And narrower and more full of potholes at various locations. But what can you do. I stayed in Marblehead for a few hours, reading a dull book on sententious rhetoric in Tacitus in a seaside park and getting some bread from Iggy's. Then I rode back, of course.

Not ready to join these guys any time soon. An old roommate of mine rode in what I think may have been the first Boston-NYC AIDS ride, or at least the first one I was aware of, several years ago. She was riding 80 and 90 miles a day to get in shape. I was feeling lucky to do something like 8 or 10 yesterday.

And that's fine.

Perhaps scant weeks away from being 32 is a rather belated time to discover the joys of freedom of movement, but then, I don't drive. Yet. (My dad didn't learn until he was 50; I can still beat that, I hope.)

Anyway. J and I are going to see Lysistrata tonight, our second evening of burlesque entertainment this week. We'd seen the Burlesque Revival Association back in February and went to see them again on Wednesday. [livejournal.com profile] frederic and [livejournal.com profile] dirtyknees were also there. In addition to a bunch of other people, of course; I recognized Jax and Denise (*) and Cynthia Von Buhler in a schoolgirl outfit. ("Schoolgirl outfit" applies only to the last.) The show was good campy fun, although not as good as their February show, I think; perhaps that show was helped by the unifying theme of impending Valentine's Day. This show had a subtheme of making fun of pedophile priests, at least.

If you ever get a chance to see the acrobatic duo known as the Chicken Daredevil Club, however, go for it.

(*) Seeing them reminded me that I want to go to Pennsic this year and the deadline for preregistration is fast approaching. But J. can't go, and I don't really have the money, and I can ride a bicycle only so far. Alas."
