My backpack smells like garlic.

So I ended up doing only 15 dollars' worth of photocopying at the Rockefeller library yesterday. But that's all right. After that bit of joy, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] sjc at the Coffee Exchange on Wickenden. It was good to see him, and I even got a verbal sneak preview of what will probably end up as a spoonfed piece soon. So yay me.

We then went to the reception for the guidebook to Providence and Newport that J. and her mom wrote, where there was much of free food to be had. We also got to meet Tony the Dancing Cop.

Mayor Cianci was supposed to be there as well, but for some reason he's really busy this week and so has canceled his appearances. He sent over some marinara sauce, though.

You know, I had no idea that there was an abandoned Masonic temple right there near the State House. I later learned from J.'s dad that the building was never actually finished inside or used in any way. Except, of course, by whatever flying or levitating creatures enter by means of the pane-less window sjc and I noticed a couple of stories up.

There was much in the way of leftovers afterwards, and J. and I were particularly sad to see the massive amount of Indian food going to waste -- our favorite Indian restaurant in Providence had sent over saag paneer, mango chicken, and garlic nan, the three things J. had pointed out as especially good in her write-up of the restaurant for the guidebook. We ate as much as we could, as did other people, but there were so few people in relation to the total amount of food that we could only make a little dent. Fortunately, she and I had empty Rubbermaid containers in our bags (one of the few benefits of having all of our stuff for three days with us), and so we filled them up with saag paneer for today's lunch. I also took some nan, hence the garlicity of my bag, in case you were wondering.

In other news, this Peter Murphy album, although I like it, is mildly freaking me out, if only because the middle-eastern stylin's remind me of One Of Us circa "Skyclad," and of course John Eye's voice has always reminded me of Peter Murphy's...

Update 45 seconds later: there, that's better. Forgot an angle bracket in a link, should be fixed now.
