I haven't done a "real" update in a while. Nothing has struck me as particularly noteworthy, I suppose, although that hasn't stopped me before.

I've been trying to rework the "here are what the chapters of my dissertation will be" part of my prospectus (still lacunose) in light of advisorial criticism (the chapters were too unconnected to one another); this afternoon I will see if my venture in that direction has been fruitful in his opinion. It seems odd to me that it's the weekend already, as I had a particularly long last weekend, the advisor (who is also my boss) suggesting last Friday that as nothing in particular was pressing here at work and that since I needed to do some revision, I should just stay home until Wednesday.

When not engaged in such research or in internet surfing or in watching various movies of dubious value (or, rather, while watching many of those movies, since my mind sure wasn't needed for viewing them), I've been geeking out in advance of the upcoming Arcanum game, filling the first few pages of a blank journal with insane occult ravings, both to serve as a prop, and because I thought it would be wicked cool to translate parts of the "Book of Nod" into fragmentary medieval Latin verse while watching things like "Total Recall," as I'm sure you will agree.

I've also done a bit of driving practice, by which I mean to refer to automobiles and not golf, and some yard work.

Tonight J. and I will probably go out to dinner with our kindly landlords, and tomorrow we'll go up to the Brattleboro, VT / Keene, NH area for an overnight trip to visit her family and to push her new book at a farmers' market, unless I stay home alone to be studious, which I might do if the advisor reappears and urges me to get something concrete and more finished-like to him early next week, which is a possibility.

I forgot to include when I posted the first version of this moments ago that last night was stressful, as our cats were spooked by something outside the screen door they had been looking out -- perhaps a raccoon -- and spent the rest of the evening hissing and growling at each other and making the most extraordinary sounds, when normally they are quite happy in one another's company. This has happened once before, so we knew that we had to, as the immortal bard said, "keep 'em separated," as it turned out, overnight. Fortunately this time no one was urinated on while trying to calm a cat so scared as not to be able to control her bladder. This morning, as we hoped, all was well. I assume it's some fear- or hostility-based scent thing. Or that they're just freaky and high-strung sometimes.

Long commute this morning, as I left the house scant minutes too late to catch the train, and had to take the usually slower and today slower still bus from the Witch City, and then the "B" line had some holdup or other.

And my left nipple hurts for some reason, and I can't think why. (Unless it's this clamp, but that's unlikely.)

It's very odd -- J. turned on NPR this morning, as is her accustomed custom, and I heard someone on the radio refer to "September 11" not in any way connected with last year's terrible events, but solely to indicate a specific day next week, as one might use any other date. How strange.

Looking forward to the end of next week -- "Quidam" on Thursday night and then the Arcanum game on Saturday. Yay. I'm especially happy that I have only to walk a few blocks to the LARP site because, in the end, I'm a lazy bastard.

It stops still between underground stations for 10-minute stretches only once a week.

Will you guys be going up to Keene for the pumpkin festival this year?

B and I will most likely go and if I don't have my parents in tow (they were mildly interested in going) we could meet up somewhere :)

Haven't thought about it -- we might do.

Although the idea of leaving Salem to do some Halloween tourism is odd.

my cats have done the same thing...though, it is usually due to a neighborhood cat coming up onto the front porch for a visit. puffed up tails and hissing ensues...i just don't understand why my cats do that to eachother.
