Labor Day weekend
Sep. 2nd, 2003 12:04 pmWent to New Hampshire. Helped run a massive two-day yard sale. (Made plans to have another one in Salem the weekend before Halloween; may invite spooky friends to come and sell off excess spook.) Amid things to be cast off J.'s mom found outrageously spooky Italian umbrella with silver handle and cut-glass "rubies" and gave it to her. Drove most of the way back from New Hampshire without killing anyone or dying. Lucky. Passed by -- literally, along Route 2 -- two social opportunities (Leominster, Walden Pond). Both tired, J. with migraine.
Needed brainless movie: Watched "The Scorpion King," with plot guesses, since movie too brainless, and required some brain activity in order to enjoy. ("Will his brother die now or later? Will this guy be the comic relief? Was it scar-face guy or the king's son who betrayed their mission? Will the Rock kill the scar-face guy and lead the people to glorious victory like Kevin Costner, or will he beat him, leave him alive, earn his respect, and win him over to the cause, whereupon scar-face will die heroically at the end?") Were surprised scar-face guy didn't die heroically at end. Moviemakers missed opportunity to make blood of the scorpion figure in plot climax. Stupid, stupid.
Yesterday tried to read articles (some Structuralist), winnowed CD compilation collection (more than one or two volumes of "Beneath the Icy Floe" really redundant, even with different songs), sneezed from pollen, helped make and consume johnny cakes with blueberries, fresh salsa, and rustic tart with three varieties of plums plus a peach. Folded laundry, watched "Powerpuff Girls" movie. In honor of Labor Day listened to Dropkick Murphys while making dinner.
