Many of these could become complete entries in their own right. But they won't.

-- I was nearly hit by a jeep this morning, the driver of which failing both to engage her turn signal and to notice the red arrow forbidding her turn in the first place. She saw me at the last minute and squealed her brakes, although not actually ever coming to a stop, while I jumped back onto the sidewalk. But that's all right; I'm sure her cell phone conversation was important.

-- In my first brush with grass-roots politics, I went to a Dean campaign meet-up last night at a brew pub, which was not particularly super-inspiring, although we did get to meet a guy in his 40s who's voting in his first election as an American citizen. It was more interesting to talk to other people there over a beer than to hear the organizer's opening pep-talks. I'm glad I got there late, so I didn't have to choose a color-coordinated name tag (red meant "ask me about Dean"; blue meant "tell me"). -- Incidentally, I was the only person at my table who didn't get quoted in the local paper. But our cute little cub reporter guy can't spell names right even when he's copying them off a name tag.

-- I was vexed to discover that while Brill's Companion to Herodotus did not, as my boss wondered, contain anything about the Victorian reception of Herodotus, it does have an article on "Women in Herodotus" that I should probably read. Curse you, Josine Blok! I already have too much to do as it is!

Not that I'm really doing any of it.

Time for a spinach and feta thingy.

Sure!

This one was somehow "unofficial"; they were having one in Lowell, and someone said, well, let's just have one in Salem, too! J. found this somewhere in the bowels of a message board, I guess.

Checking with J., it seems that they'll be held the first Wednesday of every month -- I assume at the Salem Beer Works as last night's.

No; those are pretty good, but this was one of these:
