quislibetFirst, there has been a run of birthdays this week, with burkean, shelbyg, komos, and now brigid, and probably others. Happy (belated) to y'all.
The next few days will find J. and me up in New Hampshire, carpetbagging. J.'s parents work on the Dean campaign, and so we'll probably hold some signs or something. (In 1988 they worked on the Bush campaign, and remember when Dubya was an embarrassment to be kept out of the news.) I think J. is still reeling from the fact that her parents registered as Democrats this year, when in her youth they held official positions in the hierarchy of the state GOP, which (the whole party, not just the state's) they lament has now fallen to the "wingers" (I guess doesn't mean Debra and Kip, as that would admittedly be a little odd).
Yesterday at the Y I heard "On the Dark Side" and remembered the time in 1995 or so that I saw John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band open for the Barenaked Ladies in Lowell, MA, in an auditorium where I had once previously seen Medea. That's all an odd match, for one another and for me (except for Medea; I'll never stop saying "Medea"), but it was free and my homies were going.
Cafferty, as I recall, wore a sleeveless denim jacket and sweatbands on his wrists and kept asking us if we were ready to rock.
