Does it make me a bad person if I can't stand the word "herstory"?

my brain always tries to gloss that as "hirsutory," which is kind of funny in a non-PC way.

I hate it when my brain gets all harried like that...

Is that a place where they make teddy bear outfits for people?

No, it makes you an intelligent person that doesn't need to prove anything by mutating words.

(Languages have to grow some how (or die)) it helps if you have some idea of what you are doing. The fact that you hate the word suggests that you have some clue where the word 'history' comes from (and no, ladies, it has nothing to do with His Story) and recognize 'herstory' as the over-sensitive, uneducated attempts and looking legitimate that it is.

Yeah, that's most of it, the false etymology.

Unfortunately, with my background in Latin and Greek, I Know Too Much, and am thus open to vexation from certain kinds of made-up words that other, saner souls are untroubled by.
From: [identity profile] quislibet.livejournal.com
Sometimes I don't think there needs to be a distinction!
From: [identity profile] lilithraevyn.livejournal.com
I didn't even know what you were talking about until reading down the threads.

I hate people who make up words.

Can anyone say "Killography".

That still makes me want to stab MANY people in the face.
From: [identity profile] quislibet.livejournal.com
That should make you want to be all stabby. But I have to say it's a new one on me...
From: [identity profile] lilithraevyn.livejournal.com
It was 'created' by ...I forget the organization... to refer to the graphic violence in video games. Modeled after pornography, which if they read up on the word, they'd understand how THAT word was formed. It certainly isn't "sexography".

No. It's a stupid word, and I say that as a lesbian and a feminist. Bleah.

zounds, no! I'm just happy that I'm away from people who refer to the Bible as "History".

You're fine so long as I can poke fun at Our Fearless Leader for crafting words like "misunderestimate."

I'm so going to oveuse misunderestimated in sentances to vex you!

I'm gonna 'postmutiltate' the language around you.

Though the advent of IM seems to be bringing about the Orwellian simplification of the language as scribed in 1984.

What about gender neutral words like Theirstory or Ourstory. Isn't that a better way of looking at history because it always has 2 (or more) sides to it although only the Victorstory gets passed on.

And there's always hystory.

Yes, by not liking the word you are obviously trying to show how much you need to compensate for small genetalia and an oversized ego. That, along with your need to oppress those of the opposite gender due to the stereotypical male dominate view in society would make you not just a bad, but indeed a vile and disgusting creature not fit to breathe the same air as those of the obviously superior femine persuasion.

Right, I should probably mention I believe none of the above and I was being sarcastic as hell...
