The other day I posted a poll concerning a name for my dissertation, so I could refer to it without using the D-word. The voter turnout was overwhelming, but several candidates have had, regretfully, to drop out for failing to place.

It's down to two candidates now. I'd say "It's up to you, America," but that would be unnecessarily exclusive, whereas listing all of the countries I can remember where y'all are would be tedious. and "It's up to you, Livejournal" lacks poignancy.

Did you write "y'all"? Oh dear.

Hey, "y'all" is very useful for translating "vos".

And I'd do it again!

I like "Consuela", because it has a nice, seductive yet cozy ring to it--something one would like to come home to, because Consuela is soft, consoling, and makes good Tollhouse cookies. Consuela has an endearing touch of mischief in her.

"Fat Eddie", I think would be unfortunate, because I'd start thinking of it as a big fat problem, like Spalding Gray's Monster in a Box. Fat Eddie sounds like someone who would break your knees or beat you with a cue stick after first beating you soundly at 8-Ball.

Consuela also bring to mind a large chest. But see I like Fat Eddie, because If you don't treat him right he'll beat you black and blue and break a finger or two to get your attention. Consuella'd just call her cousins...

Consuela has a certain faux-Latin sound that, given the topic of said unmentionable D-thing, makes it curiously apropos, I'd say.

*wanders off to think of a name for her own*

I suppose it all depends on whether you want to be slave to a steamy iberian seductress or a greasy pawn shop owner from the bronx.

I was having a toss up until I read this comment.

*puts vote for Consuela*

I don't want to picture the other.

IIRC Consuela was the name of the ever-efficient yet motherly nurse on Marcus Welby, MD, which is a swell spirit to invoke where a dissertation is happening.

Yeah, you dont want to name it Fat Eddie. Its such a slimy name for something you should be intimately aware of. Consuela is much more suave.

Incidentally, what is a dissertation? *heads for dictionary.com*
