A tree is like the Universe
standing there,
watching us.
Why do you watch us, Mr. Tree?
I see you standing there, Mr. Tree.
I see you.
What are you thinking of, Mr. Tree?
I see you.

(finger snaps)

The same, in Latin (unmetrical):

Arbor similis est mundo,
Stans ibi,
nos spectans.
Cur nos spectas, domine arbor?
Cur?
Te video stantem ibi, domine arbor.
Te video.
De qua re cogitas, domine arbor?
Te video.

I composed both versions to annoy a friend in high school.

Said friend is actually now teaching Latin at that same high school, heaven help him, all married and even parental, responsible for keeping the flame of the classical tradition burning in south central Ohio.

I guess I'm doing my part for the flame of the classical tradition by replacing electronic gibberish on p. 8 of today's editing project with ta men oun akribh twn en taiV anagrafaiV, only with accents and in SuperGreek rather than the Symbol font, but really I'm thinking about what to wear tomorrow evening for Halloween.
