(no subject)

J. and I went up to visit her grandmother, recuperating from a broken hip at home (after several weeks in an Old Folks' Home that J. reports was just like in some terrible movie; everyone was in wheelchairs and staring off into space and listening to the Andrews Sisters).

Said grandma was in good spirits and J. forced her to do some of her physical therapy exercises, so hooray for that. (My own grandmother's hip never healed properly and she complains all the time about it; but then, she also refused to be told by any damn doctors what to do...)

Anyway. J.'s parents are away right now (the life of the travel writer) so we went to pick off the Mighty Garden and now have Much Produce. At least the blackflies were scarce this time.

Her grandmother has a vast array of books and rather than do the work I brought with me I ended up reading a rather good one on Rebels, Pretenders and Impostors. The authors had cause to mention Tacitus on several occasions, so I can count it as research.

Time to go to work now. I wish I hadn't finished that book, as I would much prefer reading it on the commute to "Vittorio, the Vampire."
