I've just realized, in the unsuccessful process of trying to locate a library copy, that I don't mean Jane Yolen's Tam Lin, but rather Pamela Dean's. Yolen's is an illustrated version based more faithfully on the original ballad, for kids, and I haven't ever read it.

I point this out mainly because a couple of you were going to read it, based solely on my recommendation. I apologize if you've spent money on it. Although I'm sure Yolen's is absolutely charming and delightful.

Authors in the same circle of writers shouldn't write books with the same title. It confuses one, if one is dorky enough to be aware of such connections.
