When I woke up this mornin'
I was thinkin' everythin' was fine.
Well, when I woke up this mornin' in Salem,
It was eight a.m an' everythin' was fine.
'Til I saw it was the nineteenth,
And I had French class in Boston at nine.

(Or words to that effect.)

I thought it didn't start until tomorrow. Fortunately, with J.'s vehicular help, I caught the express train from Salem Depot and was only ten minutes late. (I would have been slightly less late, but I didn't actually know where the class was meeting.)

Anyway. So I'm auditing (unofficially, with the kind permission of the professor) an intensive first-semester French class most mornings through the end of June. Some ridiculous number of years ago, when I was a first-year grad student (and many current first-year grad students weren't quite teenagers yet), I took a "French for Reading" course with the same prof., but I've never had any formal training in actually speaking the language. Since I'll be living in Normandy starting in October I thought I should probably get me some.

It means Consuela will be horribly neglected for a few weeks, but she should be used to that by now.

Today, in the videos, Benoît and Julie interviewed potential roommates. Benoît wanted to choose Ingrid, the mannequin allemande, but that was a no-go for Julie. They ended up with a certain Pascal, but not without some awkwardness. I'll keep you posted.

Four years! Did you have a series finale party?

Benoit and Julie sound much more interesting than the "French In Action" series I had to watch in college for french class... nothing ever HAPPENED in our videos, it was quite irritating. "Destinos", on the other hand, the Spanish class one, was way cooler--there was a mystery, and a romance, and they went from different cities in Spain to Argentina and Mexico...

So the French weren't actually in action after all!
