I have not updated in a while.
May. 31st, 2004 07:05 pmHighlights, out of chronological order but in ascending order of length of description:
- Don't ask about Consuela.
- I lost my internet connection while typing this.
- The evening brings homemade blueberry ice cream, after asparagus.
- Next week J. and I are going to Ohio to visit my family, which we have not done together since 1997.
- French class continues apace. For homework this weekend, we had to watch a French movie. Oh no! J. and I watched "L'Auberge Espagnole," which was diverting.
- Thursday, in a pub in Davis Square, courtesy of Reverend
brigid, J. and I accidentally jumped on the gay-marriage bandwagon, until we get the clerical error fixed. This new potential for typos is the only drawback I can see to the whole thing.
- Today, with me getting in a bit of driving practice, we went to Brown, as four of J.'s colleagues were getting hooded, which sounds so pre-executiony to me, but what can you do? J. is wondering how she can transfer somewhere else in time to get cooler academic robes, but at least they have nifty hats.
- Saturday, our friends S. and P. came to Salem. We went up 1A to Ipswich to eat clams, see wolves, and buy cider and lettuce. (The lettuce was actually purchased in Wenham on the return trip, however.) After walking around Salem a bit, which involved at one point interrupting a LARP and talking to
other_hbk, we returned to our place for buckwheat crêpes filled with crème fraîche, gruyère and leeks, a meal requiring many accents, but worth it. S. and P. had never seen "Preaching to the Perverted," and this was rectified after dinner.

Yeah, I know. We had plans to be the weird old couple that had been together for decades but never married -- but alas, cruel reality, viz., that it will be rather easier for us to move to France together this fall if we are legally married -- provided impetus to change that.
J.'s mom claims to regret not being able to call me her "sin-in-law" anymore, but she cheered up when we told her she could point out to friends that ours is a marriage of convenience.
