It is quite telling that "Bedtime Magic" on Magic 106.7 plays in the 7:00 hour, as I was reminded last night at the laundromat.

Or at least it claimed to be live radio; I wouldn't be surprised if it was just the same mix tape they played the last half dozen times I was there. You can always expect to hear one of two of Billy Joel's softest songs (not that I want to piss off [livejournal.com profile] dv by dissing Billy Joel), "The Rose," one of three or four twangy country crossovers, that Peter Cetera/Linda Ronstadt duet, or, for something really rockin' out, Natalie Imbruglia, and at least a few songs using that extremely irritating computerized voice effect that's become so overused in the last few years.

Earlier in the day, I'd tried to sit and read in the local cafe, but they were playing the Doobie Brothers at a volume that drowned out my headphones even on pain-causing maximum. Plus I'd forgotten a necessary notebook, so I finished my coffee quickly and went home.

Finally, to add insult to injury, as I walked back from the cafe, a patriotic bumper sticker on a car in my neighborhood put a Stryper ballad in my head for a long time.

Sigh.

Sometimes, it's hard to be a woman.

Not that that's relevant, but I'm just saying.

Oh, yeah, the "...flowers" song was there too.

Really, I was only there for about two hours, and heard all the same songs. It doesn't seem to matter just what time of day I'm there.

Sometimes I just wait across the street from the laundromat in the cafe -- with the attendant danger of Doobie Brothers. It's a tough call. At least at the laundromat it can be drowned out with headphones when I remember them.

(I'm anxiously awaiting our landlords' planned installation of a washer and dryer.)
