So I had a meeting with Herr Prof. Dr. WH, my advisor and boss, who demonstrated to me (unwittingly) that he's not just my advisor because it's convenient, but that in fact he is a brilliant man with clever ideas and good advice. We have basically outlined my dissertation chapter by chapter, which will make writing a proposal for it much simpler.

On the other hand, on the work side of things he gave me some correspondence to act on that has been sitting in a pile of papers in his house for two years (ideally it is only a COPY that he takes home to lose).

But today he must convince his aged post-stroke (and thus [a] easily confused and [b] irrationally stubborn) father to permit the amputation of his mother's leg below the knee since the embolism she suffered recently has pretty much killed all of the tissue. This involves numerous phone calls to family friends who can likewise bring this pressure to bear, all via phone to Europe.

Meanwhile, one of my own relatives is trying in all seriousness and religious conviction to convince me that this week's planetary alignment is Yet Another Sign of the End Times.

I have mixed feeings about the end being nigh. It would be interesting to see who's listed in the end credits of hte universe. However, I think I would like ot experience more of life. I don't feel I've been a good enough person yet to enter the karmic wheel again, I feel I'll end up another confused male again, with fewer opportunities.
Oh well, at least I know what to toast for this weekend, prior to tipping my glass.
