Hmm. All of Advisor-Man's clever advice seemed so very likely to jolt me into action and turn into an academic prodigy today, until I actually sat down to work.

Although to be fair I haven't tried really *writing* anything yet, but rather doing last-minute skimming of important sources I haven't actually read carefully. Which is inherently likely to promote a feeling of non-accomplishment, I suppose.

Nonetheless, I am whimsically stopping for a moment to provide, for your contemplation and subsequent writing out of answers, a brief series of questions in the manner of Lewis and Talbot (makers of fine spats, hats, cravats and other more or less useless accessories for the Discriminating Gentleman since 1867):

1. Would you rather be rich or beautiful? Why?

2. Similarly, would you rather be stupid or ugly? Explain.

3. Besides the computer, name three objects or categories of objects found on your desk right now. If you're at an internet cafe or using a laptop on your actual lap, improvise.

4. What is it about "The Family Circus" that makes us look at it, even knowing we will regret it very, very much?

5. Which of the following would be most likely to figure prominently as part of a real-life evil world-spanning conspiracy planning to enslave humanity for their dark alien or extraplanar masters, a la "X-Files" or any modern horror role-playing-game you care to mention: (a) the MBTA (b) the Bush Administration (c) Monsanto (d) the Vatican (e) Starbucks (f) Aaron Spelling.

6. Which of the following fictional occurrences has affected you or probably will affect you most deeply: (a) the death of the Lone Gunmen (b) the death of Tara on "Buffy" (c) Daniel Myer's set at Man Ray last night (d) "Decision 2000" (e) "an 'E.R.' to cherish" (f) other.

7. What's the most menacing skeleton in your musical closet?

8. What's the last movie you saw on the big screen?

9. Are you going to play in my Changeling game on Jun. 22?

10. Solve the world's problems in three words or less.

1. Rich, I think, because then if beauty were important to me I could buy it.
2. Ugly, I suppose, as long as I was really really smart and could lurk in an underground lair and plot the downfall of... well, whatever needed falling down at the time.
3. Tacitus books, plastic Dalek, live cat.
4. I wish I knew; that's why I asked y'all.
5. I'm going to have to go with Monsanto on this one, but it's a tough call.
6. (d), followed by (b)
7. Amy Grant, although it has stayed in the closet since the late 80s. In occasional circulation, maybe Gitane Demone. (I think the two should record together.)
8. I can't remember if it was "Fellowship of the Rings" or "Amélie."
9. I'd look a damn fool if I didn't.
10. I have a few. Three words: Soft-Ripened Cheese. Two: Benevolent Monarchy. One: My mother would say, "Jesus."

1) Rich.

2) Ugly. Nothing bothers me more than stupidity. Well, maybe midgets, but they're just creepy.

3) Soda, some stuff for a game I'm playing in tomorrow, and several manilla folders loaded with information on damn near every horrible thing John Ashcroft has ever done. Muckraking can be fun.

4) Couldn't tell you. I don't think I've seen one in years.

5) I'm tempted to say B, but there is no way that even Bush can catch up on the centuries of lead-time that the Catholic Church has in that contest. 'D' is my final answer.

6) D. Though I do hope I get to see more of Amber Benson soon.

7) Most of the truly horrifying stuff I owned has been sold, though no matter how hard I try, I can't get rid of a review copy of the soundtrack to the 3rd Crow movie. No one will buy that.

8) Training Day (I don't got to the theaters very often)

9) Thinking about it. Not really sure, though. Kind of burned out on LARP.

10) "Arm the Homeless"
