It occurred to me yesterday, as J. and I went prowling around town as tourists, being catty about the stuff in gift shops, for maybe the second time since we moved there a year and a half ago, that despite everything Salem is growing on me, dammit. [livejournal.com profile] jackdaw keeps telling us to move to Davis Sq., which has long been a dream of ours ever since we moved away from it, and J. is considering finishing her Ph.D., which would mean going back to Providence, which we've also missed since leaving it (no, seriously, [livejournal.com profile] sjc), but pondering both of these things makes us realize how much we like, if not the town, at least our actual apartment and landlords and yard and so on, not to mention the cheap rent.

But I think the key to this is that J. started working in Cambridge last month, and suddenly we don't feel like we're trapped in Salem, and we don't have to try to fit in so much into the neighborhood as representatives somehow of the museum J. used to work in. We're both in Boston and Cambridge more often and don't have to overcome lethargy to leave Salem to get out and see people, as we're often already there. (But, astonishingly, we have even felt more motivated to make extra trips into town. In fact, when we went to Hell at Man Ray a few weeks ago, we actually went home after work, ate dinner and changed and drove back into Cambridge. Weird.)

It also helps that [livejournal.com profile] mvoid and [livejournal.com profile] electriccat (whom I met officially Sunday night) have moved up there, and other people are considering it. Even if it somehow works out that we only ever see them at parties in Boston, it makes Salem seem more connected to y'all.

In other news, we have finally heard back from Gerard and Michelle in Brittany, which is way cool, but you won't know who I mean as I have stopped just short of writing about that cool evening in France. Maybe tomorrow I'll rectify that.

Yeah, whatever.

Incidentally, did you get my e-mail from yesterday?
