So it is half again as long as the maximum word count that the graduate school will accept, and there are still gaps to be filled in in the footnotes, but I have a complete first draft of the main text of my dissertation proposal at last.

The mind boggles.

Do you have to defend it? I got raked over the coals when I defended mine, but everyone told me that that was a good thing because it meant that my dissertation defense would be a breeze. Apparently professors have a quota of abuse that they have to ration out over the course of a graduate student's career.

Yeah, I'll have to circulate it among interested parties for almost a month and then do an oral defense. But first it will need to be revised and shortened considerably. Alas, my advisor is much better at telling people where to add material than at helping them cut things.

I also get the impression that prospectus defenses are a little trickier than the final diss. defense, if for no other reason than that you're just starting out and don't know as much, or at least haven't yet focused your ideas by writing them. Ideally, though, I can have that ordeal over with before the end of the semester.

Revising and preparing will cut into my time for making props for a live-action Son of Ether character, but I suppose I'll have to deal.
