It's the time of year when people report wacky student quotes from papers and exams on academic lists. One person wrote:

One of my colleagues recently had a student
who wrote, in a paper contrasting his Protestant
worship service with a service he had attended
at a local synagogue, that "all the men wore Yamahas
on their heads."

In other news, I have now been the recipient of the statement, "Get down off that cross, we need the wood" in a netgoth flame war! I would say, "Go me!", were not a widely bestowed honor.

Firewater is one of those bands I have heard praised and keep meaning to check out.

You should definitely check them out. They are like a gruff barroom industrial-intensity band, but with violin and accordion and bouzoukis and such. Kinda like a Lower East Side version of the Pogues or something.

Besides, their singer-songwriter was with Cop Shoot Cop -- my absolutely favorite industrial-ish band of the early-mid 90's.
