It's another non-entry in the form of miscellanea!

- To my annoyance, I utterly forgot to watch or record the Boudica movie on Masterpiece Theatre, looking again closely at the Post-It note on the television that was meant to remind me it was going to be on only after it had aired. Despite widespread critical disdain, I am still morbidly curious; I don't suppose anyone in a vaguely Boston-ish area taped it?

- Yesterday was irritating: I hate wearing Holter monitors. Also: One gets oversensitive to random twinges and pains when one has to record them in a little diary. (Fear not, dear readers: I am likely as fit as Tony Blair, probably with an adjustment in my favor for age, if less dedicated to my work.)

- I must remember to cancel my emusic.com membership. Not only are they changing the terms of service at the end of the month to restrict MP3 downloading considerably, but I have found the site less responsive lately and downloads more likely to result in "error" messages. Plus, that Die Laughing track I just listened to was all whacked, not something I mind so much at the moment, but when each track begins to count against a monthly maximum, such things will be rather vexing.

- At the Salem Public Library I found among "new nonfiction" a very recent biography of Nero I had not heard anything about. Huh.

- I discovered the other day that "quislibet" is perfectly good medieval Latin, so that's somewhat less embarrassing. Still, be careful when choosing a username, ladies and gentlemen, especially if it's in a foreign language and you suspect that ridiculous numbers of people will one day be reading your journal because you've done something allegedly clever in that language.

- An update to the "baseball, motherhood, and apple pie" entry: It turned out that J.'s mom learned at a crucial and belated moment that she had no flour, so not only did the Sox lose, but there was, in the end, no pie.

"Edward Champlin reinterprets Nero's enormities on their own terms..."

He'd better not be saying I'm fat!

i was quite unhappy to discover that I had missed the Boudica movie as well. I discovered this this morning while doing research for my Latin class. Oh, well. I can find something interesting about the Caledonii...

Have you checked the PBS.org website for possible repeats of the movie? I am going to do that, you have intrigued me. I didn't even know there *was* a Boudica program coming on.

Ah, there is no joy in Mudville... no baseball, no apple pie... next you will tell me there are no hotdogs!

Ah, nevermind. I see it only came on the one time. I'm hoping that since there are 3 PBS affiliates in the Boston area, one has a delayed Masterpiece Theater schedule, or might repeat it.

It was actually on a couple of times. To confound my error, I outright forgot about it the first time, then put up a reminder in the form of a Post-It note on my TV so that I would tape its repetition the following weekend (this past Saturday), and then didn't.

I had vaguely heard about this biography, but only because I saw C. give a paper somewhat related to the book. The question remains, however: just how many (modern) biographies of Nero do we need?

Several (http://128.103.60.91:80/F/B6SBEIYI9C85CR7TI32MG7TC4YV8QY2BC828KVGLDCI3SQ3IEK-54785?func=find-acc&acc_sequence=003054350), it seems.

Yep, sympathies. I'd gone with lekythen, as I had known them from art history courses to be ancient greek cremation vases. It was originally for my spam-attracting address, in which I expected everything sent would be trashed and burned. Heh. You pay for puns. It ended up becoming my primary address... and it's plural, dammit. It should have been lekythoi. Sigh. I've never been good at Greek.

It seems to be perfectly good German for the same thing, though.

I did tape Boudica, but we reuse tapes so I'm not sure if it's still on the tape or not. I will check though.

It was kind of like an episode of Xena with a big budget and some historical advisors, along with somewhat blatant rip-offs of Julie Taymor's Titus when it came to the gilded decadent Romans and Braveheart when it came to the rousing speeches of the Celts. Alex Kingston looked like she was having barrels of fun as Boudica though, and that was contaigious so while I wouldn't say it was _good_, I enjoyed watching it.

Also, J. appears to have been adopted.

It makes you wonder. Maybe she's a fembot. Oh well.
